During 1965 a separate bridge cell was formed under Director, Tech Planning in HQ DGBR for construction of major pmt bridges. The cell was headed by a SO-I and consisted of three SO-2 and One SO-3. When the pmt bridge activities started gaining momentum, a full fledged Bridge Directorate headed By Deputy Director General (Bridges) of the rank of Chief Engineer was sanctioned in 1983. In Dec 2002, a Tunneling Cell also opened and the Dte was renamed as Bridging & Tunneling Dte. CHARTER OF DUTIES This Dte deals with all aspects of Major Permanent Bridges as well as responsible for tunnel activities. DEPARTMENTAL CONSTRUCTION In order to increase the potential of department, specially in remote areas, two Bridge Construction Companies (BCCs) (1441 & 1442) were raised during 1986 for execution of pmt bridges. These were deployed under project Vartak and Deepak respectively. Subsequently during 1993-94, two more Bridge Construction Companies (BCCs) (1443 & 1444) were raised and deployed under project Udayak. This was done for enhancing the departmental bridge construction capability of BRO. ACHIEVEMENT A total number of 458 Major Permanent bridges covering a water gap of about 42,079 RM lengths have been completed up to 31 Mar 2012. Out of 458 Nos of bridges completed, 241 Nos have been constructed departmentally and 217 through execution contract. NEW RAISING : BCCs To further built up capacity of departmental construction of bridges, Govt sanction was obtained for raising four BCCs in Oct 2007. The Deployment of BCCs are as under 1445 BCC (P) Sampark 1446 BCC (P) Udayak 1447 BCC (P) STF Hirak 1448 BCC (P) Arunank Bridge Supervision Cell (BSC) There are eight Bridge Supervision Cells in the various Projects to supervise construction of maj pmt bridges through contract. 1501 BSC (P) Udayak 1502 BSC (P) Udayak 1503 BSC (P) Sampark 1504 BSC (P) Beacon 1505 BSC (P) Beacon 1506 BSC (P) Sampark 1507 BSC (P) Sewak 1508 BSC (P) Swastik Sub Soil Investigation Section (SIS) For carrying out Sub Soil Investigations departmentally, eight (SIS sections) are deployed as under:- 1452 SIS (P) Udayak 1453 SIS (P) Shivalik 1454 SIS (P) Vartak 1455 SIS (P) Udayak 1456 SIS (P) STF Hirak 1457 SIS (P) Sampark 1458 SIS (P) Vartak |
